Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.— Prov 22:6 (NRSV)
Our focal Bible verse for this little article has to do with raising your kids the right way. As parents, we all make mistakes — it happens! We made our fair share. None of us is perfect.
But if you observe those little ones and lead them towards the things that God seems to have inclined them to be and do, you might find that you become part of a grand miracle. You might discover that you are actually called by God to help “create” that little one (your child) to be the amazing person God intended him or her to be.
Did You Know?
“Rom Webster!” It’s a pen name. From the time we were a small chap (little guy), I couldn’t separate myself from caricature. I watched people … I drew … I got attention … I improved … I made people happy … and I discovered my “identity” and my “activity.”
For me, the magical portal was Mad Magazine. For those who are old enough to remember the magazine in its “hay day,” you can attest to the fact that it was Saturday Night Live before that TV program was ever even a concept. Mad Magazine was great humor married to amazing caricature art with a voice that spoke directly to its many readers.
It was the holy grail for inspiring artists in the late 50’s or early 60’s too.
And it was my favorite magazine of all time!!!!
So it shouldn’t have surprised anybody when I stopped to look at a copy of Mad Magazine in a grocery store recently — and my wife decided to take a picture of me with one of my oldest friends in all the world!
As long as they’re not hurting themselves or anyone else, let the little kids be who they are. Let them follow their passions to find their life’s great adventure. Guide them along the way to follow The Way (Jn 14:6) as you help them learn to be God’s friend (Jn 15:5)!
That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it.

MAD Magazine was a absolute favorite in my life at Milton Hershey School. All the guys loved it and it would be passed around amount the 24 guys at my Farmhome. Thanks for the memory Rom.
Oh, what a joy, brother! When do you want to come to the Poustinia?
