For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
— Ps 91:11 (NRSV)
News Flash …
LONESOME HIGHWAY USA (CR News) — Nuns say some really cool things while traveling in cars. At least, that’s what our usually reliable sources inside the Big House tell us. What could normal people learn if they rode with those ladies who have traded their possessions for love?
The story below is almost completely true. Let’s join Sr. Charity and Sr. Albertina as they ride to a nearby parish.
Background …
Sr. Charity was feeling guilty, so she decided to confide in her “battle buddy” (that’s Spiritual Warfare jargon) on the way to a special parish event.
“I fell asleep last night during the second decade of the rosary, sister,” she said. “I really feel terrible about that!”
“While it’s not okay to fall asleep praying, faithful people have actually been doing that for a long time,” Sr. Albertina replied. “It’s not new!” (Mt 26:40).
Sr. Charity sat still.
“You mustn’t forget that Jesus has a whole Kingdom around Him,” Sr. Albertina added. “Set aside nothing-but-Jesus thinking and try to remember what the Bible actually says.”
“Huh,” Sr. Charity replied. “Are you saying Jesus doesn’t matter?”
“No, Not at all!” Sr. Albertina replied.
“You see, our Father sent Jesus into the world with a mission. Jesus was to establish His Kingdom,” Sr. Albertina went on. “Jesus is the King. He is Lord. He wants all of us to live in God’s Kingdom and to use the entire Kingdom for God’s glory.”
Sr. Charity remained quiet, so Sr. Albertina continued.
“Jesus surrounds Himself by angels, saints, patriarchs, elders, martyrs, and other creatures we know nothing about,” she said. (Rev 4:1-11) ‘Everything in heaven and on earth declares His glory. (Ps 19:1) It all works together for our good and the glory of God.” (Rom 8:28)
Sr. Albertina continued, “God knows you love Him, and He knows that Satan is prowling the world to devour us. (1 Pet 5:8) His angels are encamped all around us.”
“But, sister,” Sr. Charity exclaimed, “I don’t understand!”
“I’ll make it easy,” Sr. Albertina replied. “In the Kingdom of God, you never pray alone. Your guardian angel finished that prayer even though you fell asleep.”
“Ahh!” Sr. Charity proclaimed. “So that’s why you said it’s NOT nothing-but-Jesus!”
Sr. Charity probed Sr. Albertina, saying, “God sent His Son to establish His Kingdom. (Mt 24:14) As God’s children (1 Jn 3:1), we have access to His entire Kingdom because it’s all under the guidance and authority of Jesus our King!”
“Yes,” Sr. Albertina said. “So keep praying and trust our King Jesus to put all the resources around us in the Church for whatever comes our way from Satan! (Lk 12:32) While Satan constantly attacks the Church Jesus established, it has never been and will never be overcome by Satan. (Mt 16:16-19) Jesus keeps His promises!
“Yes! Fear not! Jesus is with us!” Sr. Charity said as she laughed heartily.
The two nuns smiled as they continued their ride on the Holy Highway. (Isa 35:8), and the old Nun Mobile was once again filled with the peace of the Lord. (2 Thes 3:16)
Nitty Gritty …
God loves us so much that He gave His only begotten Son for us. (Jn 3:16) He knows you. He loves you. And His entire Kingdom is available to you because the passion of Jesus has made you a child of God.
You don’t have to understand. In fact, you might not even be capable of understanding. Just accept it. Believe what Jesus said! And then, use the “Secret Weapon” He gave us.
The very same woman that God created and uniquely prepared to give birth to His Son in the flesh is our secret weapon in spiritual warfare. She strikes fear in the heart of Satan (Gen 3:15) because of her close connection to Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Her name is Mary, and if you are a child of God, she is your spiritual mother too. (Jn 19:26-27)
And did we say, her holiness strikes terror in the heart of Satan? (Lk 1:28, Lk 1:30, Lk 1:35, Lk 1:42) Yes, of course, we did!
If you want to believe but don’t seem able, just go to Mother Mary for help. The woman who conceived the Son of God in her womb (Lk 1:35) and brought the servants at Cana to Jesus (Jn 2:5) will also bring you to Jesus. Mother Mary was with Jesus from His conception to His ascension, staying at His side even at the hour of His gruesome death on a cross at Calvary. She will never let you down, and she always takes people to Jesus.
Our Story …
That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it!
Your Next Move …
Hey, if you’re enjoying the craziness in the world around us, keep doing what you’re doing. But some of you reading this know that it’s time for a change in your life. It’s time for you to make a decision.
Remember, before you were ever in the womb, God knew you. (Jer 1:5) Realize that God made you for a special purpose. (Jer 29:11) And know that God loves you and wants you to be with Him. (Col 3:2)
If you want to experience God’s peace and rest, repent. Turn your life in a new direction. Decide you’re going to use all the resources God has made available to you in His Kingdom through His Church for His glory.
The next move is yours. What’s it going to be? Why not ask Mary to take you to Jesus. Do it today. She’s waiting to take you there now.
Vivat Jesus!
