Sunday October 23

News Flash

VATICAN CITY STATE (CR News) — what are the nuns up to this week? They have a little surprise for you. It involves an arrogant Pharisee and a repentant tax collector. There might be a surprise in it for you too! The nuns look hopeful that you’ll be in mass this Sunday — don’t disappoint them!

Let’s talk.

Background

In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear the parable of the Pharisee and the Tax-Collector. Luke dishes up the parable with what appears to be some humor as he shares a story about a pompous, bragging Pharisee, in contrast to the testimony of humble, self-abasing tax collector.

The Nitty Gritty

How is the Pharisee viewed by Jesus? And what about the tax collector? More important, what’s the message for your life?

Be sure to attend mass this coming Sunday for the rest of the story. Listen carefully to the Old Testament and New Testament readings and focus on what your priest says during the homily.

If you haven’t been to confession recently, schedule a time this week. The sacrament of Reconciliation truly is a gift from our Lord. And receive the Blessed Sacrament too!

Jesus really is present with us, and He wants to be with you personally!

Our Story

That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it.

COOL2B

It’s cool to be Catholic. Very COOL2B!

Vivat Jesus!

  1. Humility versus humiliation, I often remember times when lector, I made an oops and my children would have snicker fits. Like “God was not in the Tornado” and “A flaming brazier”. Maybe an interesting gathering would be enjoying some “unble pie” / humble pie. A dish served to the lowest class of people made from deer intestines. There are a variety of umble pie recipes.

    1. Ahhh, my old friend, Humble Pie. It can be bitter when you first taste it, but quickly, you experience its sweet aftertaste. Though not my favorite dessert, I still enjoy a small sliver of it periodically. Thank you, brother.
