OUR STORY …
Earlier today we posted an article at our Bible Study Cartoons website. Among other things, it was about popes and prayer. It included a couple of little red birds and the Vatican, of course. You can learn more by reading the short article.
What we want to do here is share a little about what’s behind today’s Porch Story. Naturally, we’re holding a little back so you’ll have something to think about after you’ve read “Little Red Birds.”
IT IS WRITTEN …
It’s no secret that there’s tension in the Catholic Church right now. There always has been since the first days Jesus established it. Today’s tensions are largely about Sacred Tradition and the competing cultural trends. In many respects, these same tensions have always been present to reform Christ’s Church so it would be more like the world around it.
The Bible tells us that this world is being guided by evil forces (2 Cor 4:4). The world hated Jesus, and it will hate the Church along with those who hold dearly to Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition (John 15:18).
The Catechism reminds us about the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt and the massacre of the innocents. It was a clear message about the stout opposition of darkness to light in the world (CCC 530). It’s not new.
From the beginning, the nature of man and woman, the gift of children, and the institute of the family were all at the heart of God’s plan for His creation. We should expect them to be the focus of those final conflicts between light and darkness that eventually will usher our Lord back to earth.
LIFE GOES ON …
For those who are aware of the existence of crimson threads like these woven into the fabric of Sacred Scripture, we live in interesting times. The world would be very frightening were it not for the promise of our Lord to be with us until the end of the age (Matt 28:20).
The Church is the body of Christ. If you stay close to her and to Jesus, you’ll get through it just fine! And glory awaits on the other side of the shadow.
That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!
