A long time ago, a big battle took place in heaven. It ended with Satan and his evil minions being cast down to earth (Rev 12:7-9). Today the world is under the influence of the evil one, but it won’t be that way forever (John 12:31, 2 Cor 4:4).

This struggle that we call spiritual warfare is not new. In fact, the die was cast for the spiritual battle back in the Garden of Eden (Gen 3:15).

Spiritual warfare involves people, but it is very much a struggle between angels— good ones and demons (Eph 6:12). It involves a Kingdom of goodness and holiness and includes every creature in the Kingdom. And yes, that means you.

Deacon Guy went to bed that evening thinking and praying about the DogeWorld video game. It was eerily similar to what he was actually seeing in the world today.

For some time, Deacon had been convinced that Satan hated mankind because of Jesus. The Bible tells us that God created man a little lower than angels (Ps 8:5, Heb 2:7). When Jesus became a man, it set the stage for an amazing drama.

Imagine a proud angel like Satan having to bow someday to a man named Jesus who is the Son of God. Deacon wondered if that might not be the reason for that rebellion in heaven. And could it also not be the reason Satan wants to destroy humanity!

Of course, many of these things are beyond our understanding. Catholics like to say they are a “mystery.” But what we must remember is that the people around us who seem to be doing such crazy things are not our enemy. We have to love them and keep praying for them.

And while we have to resist the devil (Jas 4:7), battling with the evil one is the work of Jesus and His angels. Humans were not made for that part of the fight. We were made to love the ones God puts around you.

In spiritual warfare, do your job and let God’s other creatures in the Kingdom of God do their thing. The victory belongs to Jesus!

That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. It’s cool to be Catholic. COOL2B!

In Christ.
